Ai-san

The indigo color of Atelier Shimura comes from this Ai-Game(indigo vat) The temperature is kept around 25℃ inside the vat and when we put our hands into the vat which contains fermented indigo, it feels as if we are touching the life as it is lived directly. This has the effect of calming us naturally. When we start Ai-date(Building Indigo), we take care of the Building Indio by turns. From time to time, we check the indigo in the vat to see whether the indigo is in good condition. To that end, we sometimes put our own fingers in it, smell it, and even taste it. The color is never the same. Each time we dye with indigo, innumerable colors will appear. It is a mysterious and endless work, but on the other hand, it gives us a warm friendly feeling. That is the reason we call the indigo “Ai-san” – a term of affection.
