Carried over throughout time
— Story of Tsunagi-ito
Thread that has been carefully dyed the color of the plant, we cannot throw away easily – even the short ones. In the atelier was inherited “Tsunagi-ito (connecting thread)” which was connected of short threads. Weaving kimono while mixing the Tsunagi-ito, it is as if the feeling of someone who connected the thread in old times comes to us now. And that will appear in depth in the kimono. Among the Tsunagi-ito, you can find some that, Toyo Ono and Fukumi Shimura say, connects to farm ladies who lived near them 40 or 50 years ago. Being such a valuable thing, we use them hesitantly and preciously. After we use all the thread, papers at the core appear. They are old newspapers whose color has faded in sepia. We expand the rounded newspaper and look forward to reading it.
